Overview

MassIVE is a community repository for the public exchange of mass-spectrometry data. It stores raw and processed files, metadata and publication-associated datasets, and supports browsing, downloading, accessioned deposition, and reuse through GNPS and related services.

Also known as: Mass Spectrometry Interactive Virtual Environment

Repository-scale spectral searchProvenance tracking

Common uses

  • Deposit publication-associated mass-spectrometry datasets.
  • Browse and download public mass-spectrometry data for reuse and reanalysis.
  • Deposit a publication-associated dataset and provide its accession so others can download and reanalyze it.

Scope and considerations

Designed for

  • Long-term deposition and public reuse of mass-spectrometry datasets.

Not designed for

  • Automatic validation of metabolite identities or a substitute for sample-level experimental documentation.

Important requirements

  • Data and metadata must be uploaded and a dataset explicitly made public when public access is intended.

Considerations

  • Dataset-level metadata quality affects downstream discoverability and reanalysis.
  • Keep raw data, processed files and a sample-to-file mapping together; public deposition alone does not imply that the data are analysis-ready.

Access and documentation

Hosted access and any account or usage requirements should be checked at the linked service. Access to a web service does not establish the license of its code or reference data.

Evidence and review

Documentation-based editorial pass on 6 September 2026: scope, interpretation limits and practical use reviewed against the linked official documentation and cited literature. Software execution, service availability and developer verification were not assessed. Repository guidance is based on official deposition documentation. No standalone metabolomics-specific MassIVE methods paper is assigned here; cite the accession and any analysis methods actually used.

No dedicated scholarly publication is listed. Follow the official documentation and resource-specific citation guidance.
